Everday Heros
by Mrs. Winn’s Class, Desert Heights Elementary School, Glendale, AZ

This 5th grade class writes about everyday heroes who are everywhere. Mariah’s everyday hero is a doctor she says because they care when a kid is crying and help older people who are in need of an operation. Jon writes, “My own everyday hero is my mom. She has three kids and no one to help . . . I love you mom!” Kristen writes, “A military man is my inspiration because my dad served in the army. He was, and still is my everyday hero.”

Kindness Counts!
Mrs. Winkelspecht’s Class, Berlin Community Elementary School, Berlin, NJ

Each year the whole school selects a theme. This year they chose Kindness Counts. These first grade students write about ways they show kindness to people and pets they love. Kevin writes, “Kindness counts when I clean my room. This helps my parents so we can have more family time.”

Lessons From Our Grandparents
by Mrs. Davis’ Class, Dry Creek Elementary School

Humorous recollections by grandparents teach valuable lessons to these young authors.  “My grandpa and grandma drove to Dinosaur National Park in northwestern Colorado.  They borrowed my Uncle Greg’s camera.  There was no film in the camera!  They learned to put film in the camera before going on a trip!”
